About this blog

Hello readers!

Bee Beach

This site is primarily intended to be used as a place to share some of what I am learning about my ancestors with my family.  As you browse, just imagine we are sitting on the the shore of the Colorado River together, going through a family album, while sippin’ a fine cocktail.

So far I’m just dipping my toes into the genealogy pool, so please bear with me.  If you want to see what a real genealogist looks like, head back over to blackendroots.com, my husbands blog, and prepare to have your genes blown off.

I have no schedule set for updating this site, so it is probably wisest to subscribe if you want to know when something new has been added.  The sign-up bar can be found in the right-hand side of the page.

Feel free to leave comments or requests!

  1. Hello

    Hello.
My grandmother was Ada Almqvist married to Gustaf Karlbom. I also do have a sister named Margareta. We lives in Sweden not so far from where Klas-Petter lived. We have letters and cards from America which our grandmother recieved from mrs Hendriksson Los Angeles. The last one from 1953. Regards Christina

    • Hello Christina! How very cool to hear from another cousin from Sweden! I’ve been talking with Eva Almquist, wife of Peter, who is the the great-grandson of Laurentius, Klas-Petter’s brother.
She has told me about Rampetorp and translated the will that I have posted. I’d love to visit Rampetorp someday, the google images look beautiful.

Have you had a chance to read http://blackenedroots.com/natasha/2013/11/23/mystery-new-jersey-almquist/ and http://blackenedroots.com/natasha/2013/10/16/caef-petter-almquists-will/

Do they look familiar at all?

I’d love to see copies of the letters if you have them! I heard from my grandmother (wife of Gustav’s son Clarence) that Augusta Hendrickson and Gus were close and visited each other often.

Do you know if Theodore (Ada’s brother) and his daughter Violet returned to Sweden? I have records of him in New York, him being widowed, and a newspaper clipping of Violet visiting my family in California in 1928, and then they disappear.

I’m sorry if my blog is a bit confusing. I’ve been writing it for my near aunts, uncles, and cousins, who know all the full names of the people I’m talking about, so I’ve been sloppy in spelling out who everyone is and what side they belong to. About 75% of the posts are Almquist related though!

      Thanks for getting in touch!

      Natasha

  2. Hello Natasha Sorry that I haven´t answered your questions.
My sister and I have looked at the photos and we are not sure of who the man is or if the photo of the house is a picture from Tidaholm.
We know that Theodore came back to Sweden and our mother told us that he visited Ada and her family at Överberg when my mother was a girl He was a very handsome man she always told us. We knows that he moved to a town in the north of Sweden naimed Örnsköldsvik. Of course I will let you have copies of the letters and cards from Auhusta to Ada. Is it possible for you to send me your Email? Then you can have it as a PDF.
I can promise that we will show you Rampekärr – not Rametorp- if you will visit Sweden.Look forward to here from you-Christina

  4. Hello!

My name is Roland Karlbom and lived my early life at Överberg – Velinga.
I have been a lot in Rampekärr, and recognize the house on the photo “Tidaholm-copy.jpg”.
The house is today changed and the wall in front of the house is today gone.
The photo is probably from around 1910, and I possibly recognize some of the persons (from the left to right):
    1st – Unknown
    2nd – Unknown
3rd – Ada Almqvist married Karlbom (my granmother)
    4th – Peter Almqvist
    5th – Johanna Almqvist

    Best Regards,
    Roland Karlbom

    • Thank you so much! I’m wondering if the other two are Tekla and and Selma then. So sorry to hear the front is gone, it looked quite enchanting!

      • från sverige fotot må vara taget omkring 1910

kallat överfallshjul och benstamp och sågbänk hyvel för takspån.
har själv sett det i verksamhet rampekärr såldes omkring 1947
        med hälsning roland

        • Thank you Roland, I took a shot at translating what you said, is this about right?:
“The photo from Sweden may have been taken about 1910. They were highly skilled carpenters. I think there was a water wheel, saw mill and table saw planer for shingles.
I saw it in operation in Rampkarr. It was sold about 1947.
          with greeting roland”
